If you’re chasing striped bass and/or smallmouth bass, then without question, you need to consider fishing on Cape Cod. Some have called it the, “Striper Capital of the World.” Striped bass feed throughout the entire water column on a variety of food items and can be caught through several techniques. Utilizing live bait, cut bait, and lures are all popular ways of targeting this species.
Surf Fishing is also a very popular way to target stripers. Anglers surf cast, often using sea worms with a circle hook. During the spring and fall, fishing on Cape Cod is amazing as large schools of striped bass enter the Cape Cod Canal. These fish can reach up to 50 pounds and can often be found by a short cast. Generally, when you get a bite you have found the school. Fishing on Cape Cod offers miles of beach to search for these prized fish. Fishing on Cape Cod is great but if you’re looking for Bonefish, Tarpon and Permit, many anglers are attracted to the Florida Keys. The Keys separate the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean and span 137 square miles. The climate is more similar to the Caribbean than the rest of the state of Florida. Don’t for a minute underestimate the advantages of utilizing a boat or hiring a guide to chase these legendary species. But there are obviously added expenses when paying for this pleasure.
